Introduction
The year 2005 and the countries of the earth have decided to form a world
government to end wars, poverty and disease and to provide a united front
against terrorism, crime and pollution. Following the latest world conference,
Earth Summit, the nations of the
world have realized that they must work together or they will not be able to
function effectively in this new century. The nations of the earth held this
summit after an earlier summit on cities, Habitat II. Read and complete activities at Cities of Today,
Cities of Tomorrow for background on what the Cities Summit concluded. The
United Nations will form the basis for
this new world government, now completely funded and backed by all the nations
of the earth. The nations of the earth want a new world capital, for this new
government. The world governments want their new capital to be a Primate Super
City that will be a showpiece for the earth. Read the following reports for
information on the type of city that will be needed for the world capital

The Task

You have been recruited by the United Nations to conduct research for the
new earth capital. You and your team have been given two reports on the type of
city that will be needed. All the nations of the globe have offered their cities to be the
new global capital, but only one can be chosen. Four teams have
been chosen to visit a set group of these cities and determine which one will
make the best world capital. Your must conduct on site research to see which of
the final 60 cities will be the one world capital. Each group member will have a
role
to perform and an area of specialization. Once you complete your research your
team will create reports about each city, with an extended report about the city
that is your groups choice for the world capital.
You may include more information, than is required, if you wish.
Your final choice for the world capital presentations should use fonts,
sizing, images, maps and color effectively. You will create the
presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint and/or HTML for the web page.
You are to turn in, on a separate sheet of paper, a Bibliography of all
resources used. Be sure to use the correct bibliographical format.

Hints: Dont forget to record the exact URL of each website you
visit. You may wish to bookmark them too. You are welcome to download
images from the net that you feel will enhance your project; just remember to
give credit for your images in your Bibliography. It may be helpful to
create a checklist of each item that you need to research. Dont forget
when you take notes to identify the exact URL from web pages. We must be
able to find the web page from the URL provided. You are not to print out

Conclusion
Share your
presentations with your classmates and explore the different information each
group discovered. See how each group made their choices and see if you agree,
were all the choices good, or were some choices not fully thought through. As a
class choose one city that you feel will make the best world capital.
Final Questions:
Does the earth need a world capital to unite all people; is the
earth with a central government possible or even a good idea?
Would the earth work better with a focus point for world culture
and government, is a city the best place for this focus point to be? (See
Bangkok in Primate City article)
